The Riding of Sault Ste. Marie

The CTV News Decision Desk declared Liberal incumbent Terry Sheehan re-elected as the MP-elect for the Sault Ste. Marie riding. This will be Sheehan's third term.

Incumbent: Terry Sheehan (LIB)

Terry Sheehan is a Canadian politician, who was elected to represent the riding of Sault Ste. Marie in the House of Commons of Canada in the 2015 federal election.

Sheehan was a city councillor on the Sault Ste. Marie City Council from 2003 to 2015, following two terms serving on the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board.

Sheehan did not sponsor any bills in the two last sessions of parliament.

He has sponsored three private members' motions:

  • M-194 Instruction to the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills, and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities (precarious employment in Canda)
  • M-193 National steel procurement strategy
  • M-182 Instruction to the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage (Prime Ministers' Day)

The riding includes the City of Sault Ste. Marie and Garden River First Nation, and covers 5,921 square kilometres.

Population - 80,371

Electors - 65,235 

There are 184 polling stations in the riding.

Polls close at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 20.
