SAULT STE. MARIE -- The Art Gallery of Algoma is inviting the community to take part in its virtual art exhibit.
The exhibit serves as a way for the gallery to host an event while it physically remains closed during the pandemic.
"We know art can have a positive effect on people's well being, even during the good times," said Jasmina Jovanovic, executive director. "Our role as the largest visual arts program in Algoma, is to provide that content, even if they can't come enjoy it in person."
Jovanovic says several artists from all over the country have donated to take part in the exhibit.
One of those is Sault resident and long-time artist, Karin Doleske.
"The AGA has been really important to my self education, I really, really appreciate it," said Doleske. "So, when Jasmina came up with this idea, I said 'yeah, I can absolutely do this!'"
Doleske says getting to know other artists and viewing their work is part of the fun of being an artist.
With that taken away due to COVID-19, she hopes the exhibit will help fill that void.
"That's certainly one way of looking at what others are doing," said Doleske. "It's always been a great fascination to me anyway. I hope others will feel the same."
Jovanovic says she's still accepting art submissions to feature in the exhibit until April 30.
The exhibit can be viewed on the Art Gallery of Algoma's website.
