After four months, Greater Sudbury police say they have made an arrest in connection to the vandalism of the city’s iconic water tower.
On Tuesday, July 10, 2018, police responded to a mischief call at the Sudbury water tower. Someone had painted the slang term ‘SKODEN,’ which is understood to be short for “let’s go then,” across the word “Sudbury” on the highly visible landmark.
Police unsuccessfully canvassed the area for information and surveillance footage of the incident.
Acting on an anonymous tip, officers contacted the organizers of a local art event where a participant was seen painting an image of the water tower with the graffiti on it. They were able to get a picture of the painting and say through an additional investigation, officers developed reasonable grounds to believe the artist was the one responsible for the graffiti.
Tuesday morning a 31-year-old Sudbury man turned himself in.
He has been charged with mischief under $5,000.
The damage to the water tower is estimated at $2,850.
