The slang word skoden means let’s go then and it's been spray painted in many spots in Sudbury, including the city's iconic water tower.

In the most recent graffiti spree, the slogan is being spray-painted in various places west of Sudbury.

The Ontario Provincial Police are investigating and they want the public's help.

It's on signs, road surfaces, and rock cuts.

The slang word skoden has been spray painted 50 times on Highway 17 between Sudbury and Espanola and on Highway 144 south of Chelsmford.

The OPP will not say if they have any leads in the case.

“It's currently under investigation, so I won't provide too much information on that, but we are hoping that the public comes to us with more information on who's responsible for this offence. And if you want to remain anonymous, please call Crime Stoppers.” said OPP constable Carmel McDonald.

Skoden was also painted on the privately owned water tower in dowtown Sudbury earlier this summer.

Whether it's for the kick of climbing a tall structure and making a big mark or traveling around damaging public property, a conviction can result in a criminal record.

“This kind of activity is viewed as a criminal offence, a mischief. And mischief, depending how it proceeds in court, could proceed indictable or summary. If it proceeds as indictable, you could go to jail for up to two years, if it proceeds as summary, it's a fine of up to $5,000 or jail time up to six months.” said McDonald.

No one from the Ministry of Transportation was available for an interview, but an official says the graffiti can be a distraction for drivers and that is why a cleanup effort is underway.

Crews are using soda blasting, a high-pressure cleaning process, to clear the writing off surfaces.
