Central Ont. man killed by commercial vehicle on Highway 17

Provincial police say a 58-year-old central Ontario man was the pedestrian killed by a commercial vehicle on Highway 17 last week.

Emergency crews were called to the crash scene in northwestern Ontario near English River, more than two hours west of Thunder Bay, around 10:14 a.m. Sept. 26, OPP said in a news release.

The victim is from Scugog Township, north of Oshawa, police said in an update Tuesday morning.

"The investigation remains ongoing and charges are not being considered at this time," OPP said.

Officers from the Dryden, Shabaqua, Ignace and Thunder Bay detachments responded to the fatal collision.

The road was closed between Highway 599 and Shabaqua Corners for nearly eight hours following the crash.
