Update:

Ontario Provincial Police have identified the victim in Wednesday's fatal crash on Highway 11 that closed the road for several hours. 

Police say 57-year-old Steven Mitchell of Timmins died in the crash.

An investigation revealed he was headed north in his sport utilitiy vehicle when it collided with a pickup truck heading south.

Mitchell died at the scene and two other people involved in the incident were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Now, OPP are appealing to the public for assistance with its investigation.

OPP say that officers from the Temiskaming attachment responded to a two-vehicle fatal collision on Highway 11 in Cobalt at 10 am Wednesday.

The road was closed between Highways 64 near Marten River and 65 and detour were set up shortly after.

Drivers headed northbound can use Highway 63 in North Bay, while those headed south can take Highway 101 through Temiscaming, Quebec.

Police say the highway is expected to be closed for an extended period of time.

The identity of the person who died in the crash is being withheld until next of kin can be notified.

An investigation at the scene is underway with collision reconstructionists and a police drone.

"When they arrived, they found that there was one fatality. Two people have been brought to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. It's really important on our highways that we slow down in the winter. So, slow down all the time, but especially in winter." said OPP Acting Sergeant Shona Camirand.
