Trio charged after Cochrane police seize drugs, weapons

Raids of two residences in Cochrane on Tuesday yielded $25,000 in illegal drugs, firearms and $3,500 in cash.

As a result, three people are facing drug and weapons charges.

Armed with search warrants, Ontario Provincial Police simultaneously raided residences at 10 a.m. on Thirteenth Avenue and Huron Road.

"During the investigation, three people were arrested and police seized drugs suspected to be fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine, cocaine, methamphetamine tablets, lorazepam and oxycodone with a total estimated street value of $25,000," police said in a news release Wednesday.

"Police also seized two firearms, cellphones, scales, packaging and approximately $3,500 in Canadian currency."

Charged are three people from Cochrane ages 38, 48 and 50.

The 38-year-old suspect is charged with numerous drug trafficking and weapons offences, as well as possessing unmarked cigarettes. They were scheduled to appear in bail court Wednesday.

The other two suspects were charged with one count each of trafficking cocaine, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and two weapons offences.

Both were released and have a court date of in the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 22 in Cochrane.
