Toronto man arrested on weapons charges in northwestern Ont.

A 22-year-old man from Toronto is facing multiple weapons charges following an arrest in Thunder Bay, Ont. earlier this week, police say.

A Provincial Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement (PGNG) team comprised of members from 20 police services including the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP,) Thunder Bay Police Service and Nishnawbe Aski Police Service made the arrest on Tuesday, the OPP said in a news release.

The items seized include a handgun, eight rounds of 9mm ammunition, a cell phone and more than one thousand grams of a cutting agent used for making illegal drugs.

As a result of the PGNG investigation, the Toronto resident is facing seven charges; possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, failing to comply with a release order, failing to comply with a probation order.

The accused was held in custody pending court appearances.

None of the accusations has been proven in court.
