Thunder Bay woman killed in Highway 17 crash with commercial vehicle
A crash on Highway 17 in northwestern Ontario between a commercial vehicle and passenger van has killed one and injured two others, police say.
Emergency crews were called to the scene in Upsala Township, located about 140 kilometres northwest of Thunder Bay, around 11 p.m. Jan. 24.
A 60-year-old Thunder Bay woman was driving the van at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two passengers from the van were injured and taken to hospital by paramedics while the occupants of the commercial vehicle were not hurt.
A social media post by Ontario Provincial Police in the northwest region said there were really icy conditions on the road between Ignace and Upsala on Wednesday night resulting in multiple motor vehicle collisions, including the fatal crash.
"With these mild temperatures comes freezing rain. Salt trucks are out but please drive carefully," OPP said.
The highway was closed for several hours and has since reopened.
An investigation is continuing.

"There were no injuries as a result of that collision," Eadie said.
