OPP officers were called to deal with a wanted man at a probation and parole office on Philip Walk Monday morning.
During the interaction, shortly after 11 a.m., the person discharged a firearm and died of a gunshot wound at the scene.
The SIU, the agency that investigates instances of death, serious injury or assault involving police, was called in.
Four investigators, including a forensics expert, have been assigned to the case.
Officials say it does not appear that any police officer discharged any firearms during the incident.
