The province is providing some new and much needed funding to address the poverty and homeless situation in the Sudbury area.
Today's announcement of 17.7 million dollars over the next three years will be directed at providing housing for the homeless and improving support and services for the impoverished.
The largest amount, over ten-million dollars will be spent in the first year alone.
"People will be able to transition from the shelter, from addictions services, from mental health services into our community. And the second phase is building a 38 unit building complex that will have a combination of permanent and transitional apartments or shared living units" said Marion Quigley from the Canadian Mental Health Association of Sudbury-Manitoulin.
The investment includes a program to give indigenous people better access to supportive housing.
