An Ontario Provincial Police sergeant with 26 years of experience has been charged with impaired driving in Cochrane.

In a news release Thursday, police said the charges were laid after a vehicle was stopped during a RIDE check July 13 on Genier Road.

“At approximately 2:30 a.m., members from the James Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police stopped a vehicle,” police said in the release.

“The driver was arrested and transported to the Cochrane detachment for further testing.”

The 53-year-old suspect has been charged with impaired driving.

“The investigation revealed that the accused is a sergeant with the OPP with 26 years of service, currently off on unrelated leave,” police said.

“He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on Aug. 13.”
