North Bay woman accused of throwing coffee, spitting on victim

A woman who had been banned from a North Bay business is charged with assault with a weapon after allegedly returning and causing a scene.

"The accused had previously been asked to stay off the property," North Bay police said in a news release Thursday.

She returned to the establishment on Main Street East around 6 p.m. Dec. 17 and when asked to leave the property, the suspect allegedly spat on and threw a cup of coffee at the victim.

Officers showed up and arrested the 26-year-old local woman.

She is also charged with basic assault and failing to comply with a probation order.

The woman was released and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 21.

North Bay police released the results of recent bail compliance checks which found nearly 50 per cent of the people free on bail were not following the court's orders.

Of the 36 people accused of robbery, arson, domestic assault, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, sexual assault and attempted murder, 17 were found to be non-compliant with their release conditions.

"Seeing that many people are not abiding by their conditions, whether it be a curfew, whether it be abstaining from contacting a victim, it just goes to show again that, you know, the bail system could use some repairs," said Insp. Jeff Warner.

"Fifty-three per cent of people were compliant … if I'm being honest, not a good number. It's not a high number. That just shows that there is work to be done."
