A 20-year-old North Bay man has been charged after an altercation involving a knife near Kinsmen Beach on Wednesday evening.

Officers were dispatched to a parking lot in the 1400 block of Henry Street after multiple reports of a disturbance around 5 p.m. Sept. 4.

"It is alleged that the accused had threatened the victims while they were inside a vehicle and then proceeded to attack the vehicle with a knife while continuing to make threats against the victims," North Bay Police Service said in a news release Friday.

The suspect fled before officers arrived on scene and found the victims.

He was arrested a short while late a block away.

The accused is charged with assault with a weapon, having a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats.

David Woolley, a police spokesperson, told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca in an email that the victim and accused are known to each other.

He could not provide information as to what the incident was about.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
