NORTH BAY -- A brewery in North Bay is assisting the city's Pride committee in a big way.
Gateway City Brewery has a beer called 'Real Love Golden Lager' and for the second year in a row, a portion of the proceeds will go to the pride committee so it can hold a virtual event in September.
"We jumped on board because we wanted to be supportive allies in the community," said brewery co-founder Sully Sullivan.
"We know that they needed fundraiser support and we wanted to help."
'Real Love Golden Lager' is crisp, malty lager which Sullivan says has tons of flavour packed in it.
The brewery along with North Bay Pride launched the brew last year and it's been a success ever since.
"It's gratifying because everybody sees the big picture and we see the end result," said North Bay Pride spokesperson Jason Maclennan.
"Everybody wants equality. When we collaborate and work together towards that end goal, it makes a difference. It's just very important to remember that what is good for the queer community, is good for everybody."
Every 50 cents from a can sale will go to North Bay Pride committee to help pay for technology set-up for its three day virtual celebration, which is slated for mid-September.
The pride festival was originally set for the summer, but it was postponed due to the pandemic.
"We are really close to getting it all completed and it will be live from The Capitol Centre," said Maclennan.
"I'm sorry people can't attend but they can tune in on Facebook at North Bay Pride."
The brewery is hoping to learn how to become a safer space for members of the LGBTQ+ community.
The pride committee is pointing staff to the aids committee as they will be offering training.
"We're super happy to help out and we want to create a nice safe space for everybody within our taproom and use their education," said Sullivan.
The drink will continue to be on sale at the brewery until the last can is sold.
