North Bay’s Marathon Beach has just become more inclusive with the installation of its first accessibility mat.
Located off the boardwalk, the mat will allow those using wheelchairs, or who have other mobility issues, to access Lake Nipissing from the beach.
The mat will be named 'Wheels to the Water' in honour of the late Adam “Wheels” Miller, who served on the City’s Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee and was a strong advocate for reducing barriers and making all beaches accessible to everyone.
An official naming ceremony and plaque unveiling will be held later this month.
