SUDBURY -- A resident in the Algoma district has tested positive for COVID-19, Algoma Public Health reported late Wednesday afternoon.
The 22nd case in the district emerged after a resident was tested June 8.
The person is self-isolating, the health unit said. It's not yet known where they were exposed to the virus.
"Close contacts have been notified," Algoma Public Health said. "Unknown exposure is evidence of ongoing community spread in Sault Ste. Marie and area … Community spread remains possible and likely in all regions of Algoma."
As a result of the positive test, the health unit said all Algoma residents must continue to practise physical distancing because any close contact could be a possible exposure.
