A 42-year-old resident of Markstay-Warren is facing impaired driving charges after police responded to a report of an intimate partner disturbance on Canada Day.

On July 1 shortly before 7 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a residence in Markstay-Warren, police said in a news release.

“It was reported that a vehicle was operating in a dangerous manner on the property and the operator was believed to be impaired,” said police.

“Police located the vehicle and arrested the driver for impaired driving, then transported the driver to an OPP detachment for further testing.”

As a result of the investigation, the 42-year-old was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and two counts of impaired driving.

The vehicle involved was impounded for seven days by police and the accused also received a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court later this month.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.

“The OPP will not release names to protect the identity of the victims,” said police.

Support for survivors

"Victims in abusive relationships are not alone," OPP said.

"If you are in an abusive relationship or know someone who is, there are local resources here to help."
