SUDBURY -- With children of all ages out of classrooms and daycares, a former Elliot Lake resident is giving parents a break while providing online entertainment for young children.
Liam Kearney, the co-creator of The Liam Kearney Show, says with in-person shows no longer possible due to COVID-19, going online was the next best thing.
"It's something that I've never done before, the online thing. I've always played in front of real crowds and getting that instant feedback," said Kearney.
"It was a little bit odd at first, but I very quickly found out I still get the same type of energy."
The show, which mainly features Kearney singing both original songs and requests, streams live on YouTube every week day morning at 9 a.m.
"Every morning the kiddos sings and dance along. The parents send in the videos of the kids having a good time... spinning around and getting dizzy."
However, the show doesn't just provide entertainment for children; it also gives parents a break according to Kearney.
"The parents seem very very thankful. I get emails and messages every single day saying 'thank you, thank you, thank you for doing this. It really helps out.'"
Although the show primarily features a sing-a-long style layout, there is also a 'show and tell' segment each morning with Kearney's three-year-old son, Ollie.
In past shows Kearney says he has discussed topics like the tooth fairy and how important it is to brush your teeth, as well as the four seasons.
"We do a little bit of education stuff amongst the pure entertainment."
Kearney says the show will continue with its online streaming even after the COVID-19 pandemic subsides.
He says the streaming makes it easier for more children to experience the music; something he believes is a great learning tool.
"I was a music teacher for more than half my life. And just hearing the music really forces the brain connections without them knowing that they're learning at all. So it's kind of a win-win."
Children can also send in song request on Instagram by drawing a picture and tagging theliamkearneyshow.
