Shooting on Manitoulin Island leads to attempted murder charges
Two people have been charged – one with attempted murder – following a shooting in Wikwemikong last week.
One person was left with serious but not life-threatening injuries following the Nov. 28 incident, which took place in the area of Rabbit Island Road and Tomas Lane in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory.
Ontario Provincial Police helped the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service investigate the shooting.
"Two people were safely taken into custody that same day," the OPP said in a news release Tuesday.
A 26-year-old from Wikwemikong was charged with attempted murder, possession of cocaine and unauthorized possession of a weapon.
A 28-year-old from Whitefish River First Nation was charged with accessory after the fact, obstructing police and unauthorized possession of a weapon.

Both accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Gore Bay on Nov. 29 and were remanded into custody.
