Charity that helps kids in Sudbury victimized by theft

The charity Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer was the victim of a brazen break-and-enter Wednesday night in Sudbury.

Officials said someone broke into a storage area, stealing a professional hockey jersey that was donated by the family of a young boy who passed away from cancer.

Other items stolen included donations for the charity's largest fundraising event the Gold Soiree gala set for Sept. 28 at the Steelworkers Hall.

“Last night we were broken into and a very valuable and sentimental item was stolen from us,” said Dayna Caruso from Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer.

“Something that is absolutely irreplaceable that was meant to raise money for families in our community battling cancer. And we are looking to the community to help us recover that item.”

The charity said it hopes the community will also help with donations to the fundraiser to make up for the shortfall of what was stolen.
