SUDBURY -- For many it was a sad day in Sudbury as people gathered to say goodbye to three children who lost their lives in a car crash New Year’s morning. The community came together for a celebration of life at Glad Tidings church.
In a heartbreaking start to the service, three caskets carrying the Osagie children were brought down the main isle.
Pastor Todd Manuel delivered the main message at the service and recognizes it’s a very sad day.
“It is very difficult and of course for Uche and her family it’s incredibly difficult. But we hope today that this will be the beginning of the healing process. I mean today will bring some closure, it’s been a long 18 days, very difficult and dark days.”
Destiny, Flourish and Britney Osagie lost their lives in a car crash on Highway 17 on Jan. 1st. Their mother Uche Osagie fled Nigeria with the two older children 8 years ago.
An Aunt eulogized the Osagie children as full of light and love. Since the fatal crash there has been a strong show of support for the family from the community.
“I just want to say thanks to the Nigerian community, the Sudburian community, our city has been phenomenal, the Christian family churches have been phenomenal, so the outpouring of support has just been overwhelming,” says Pastor Todd Manuel.
In the latest act of kindness, the Lougheed Funeral Home is providing the funeral expenses at no charge to the family.
“I think in terms of tragedy we are all called to do something,” says Gerry Lougheed, co-owner of the funeral home. “I guess in a tangible way not having any expenses to the family is a real gift and in an intangible way relating the whole issue of sadness and if your whole family were killed in a tragedy just to know that somebody cares that you don’t even know.”
Police escorted the funeral procession to the civic cemetery where the three siblings were laid to rest.
