A Sault Ste. Marie woman is dead after she was hit by a car in the Station Mall’s parking lot this weekend.

Police officials said an elderly woman struck the side of the Walmart entrance, hit a pedestrian and then proceeded to smash into two parked vehicles.

Police said the pedestrian had to be rescued from underneath the car after the Saturday afternoon incident.

A 58-year-old Sault Ste. Marie woman was transported to the hospital and succumbed to her injuries a short time later. Her name has not been released by police.

“Upon arrival it was found that a single motor vehicle was involved striking both an entrance to the store and then a pedestrian, and another parked motor vehicle,” said Traffic Sergeant Ray Magnan, Sault Police Service.

No charges have been laid, at this point. The investigation is ongoing.
