Snowmobiler found dead after going through the ice on northern Ont. lake
Provincial police say an 82-year-old from the northern Ontario community of Temagami has died after going through the ice on Lake Temagami on Monday.
At about 4:15 p.m., members of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with officers from the Bear Island Police Service, responded to reports of a missing snowmobiler after the rider had failed to return home.
"Officers assisted by OPP Aviation Services, OPP Northeast Emergency Response Team as well OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit began the search," police said in a news release Tuesday.
The rider was located deceased on Jan. 7.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing under the direction of the Ontario coroner's office.

"OPP reminds anglers and outdoor enthusiasts to carefully evaluate ice conditions before heading out onto the ice as conditions can change rapidly," said police.
