Provincial police investigating suspicious death on St. Joseph Island, near Sault Ste. Marie

The East Algoma detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating what they are calling "a suspicious death" on St. Joseph Island, southeast of Sault Ste. Marie.

Members of the detachment responded to a report of a deceased person in the vicinity of P Line Road in Jocely Township at about 2:45 p.m. on Monday.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

"The East Algoma OPP crime unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service," said police in a news release Tuesday.

"Further information will be provided when it becomes available."

Investigators are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
