Five employees at Sudbury’s city-owned nursing home have been fired for exchanging ‘inappropriate’ Snapchat photos of long term care residents.
Pioneer Manor management declined CTV’s request for comment, but the City of Greater Sudbury confirmed the firings took place a week and a half ago, and said the police have been involved.
The City of Greater Sudbury said 10 residents were involved, and the investigation stems from a staff member’s complaint.
"Certain and absolute surprise that would occur within the facility,” said Catherine Matheson, City of Greater Sudbury community development general manager.
“We have policies in place of that protect the privacy of our residents and others and to have that violation was certainly a very big surprise for us"
Matheson said Pioneer Manor is also in the process of bringing in a third party to review privacy policies.
The city said some of the photos were taken with the residents' permission, but even so, cell phones and photo-taking are against policy.
