Police in Greater Sudbury are looking for suspects behind an attempted ATM robbery at a bank in Lively on Thursday evening.

Officers were called at 10:15 p.m. about a break and enter at a bank on Main Street.

“Information provided was that the bank’s security provider had received multiple alarms resulting in security being sent to the business,” Sudbury police said in a news release Friday.

The would-be thieves drilled a hole in the drywall around the bank machine in the mistaken belief that the hole would allow them to access the money in the ATM.

“When security arrived at the business, individuals were seen fleeing the ATM vestibule,” police said.

Responding officers “found that a hole had been cut in the drywall next to the ATMs in an attempt to gain access to where the money is stored.”

“It is believed that individuals involved in the incident fled in what was described as a light-coloured van prior to police arrival.”

Detectives specializing in break, enter and robbery cases are investigating the incident. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact police at 705-675-9171 or Crime Stoppers at 705-222-8477.
