Police officers in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory saved four residents last weekend when they saw a residence on fire.

Officers on patrol at 3 a.m. July 13 saw the fire in the main village area of the community.

“Officers immediately attended the residence and made attempts to waken the tenants at the residence,” police said in a news release.

Police called fire services and forced their way into the home.

“There were four tenants inside and all were accompanied out to safety,” the release said.

“The Wikwemikong Fire Department attended and extinguished the blaze. The residence sustained substantial damage but thankfully there were no injuries.”

The cause of the fire has been deemed accidental.
