Traffic violation leads to additional charges: OPP
A driver and passenger stopped in North Bay, Ont., last week are facing several alcohol and cannabis-related charges, according to provincial police.
On Aug. 20, members of the North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment say they stopped a silver sedan for a traffic violation on Lakeshore Drive.
“The vehicle was travelling with full occupancy,” said police in a social media post.
“Through investigation, the driver and one of the four occupants have been charged with offences under the Highway Traffic Act, the Liquor Licence and Control Act and the Cannabis Control Act."

As a result of the investigation, the 25-year-old driver has been charged with driving with cannabis readily available and driving with liquor readily available in addition to the charge for the traffic violation – failing to signal for a turn.
A 24-year-old passenger was also charged with having liquor in an open container in an unauthorized place.
None of the allegations has been proven in court.
“It is illegal and unsafe to have unsealed, open and accessible alcohol and/or cannabis readily available to anyone in the vehicle,” said police.
The OPP also reminded the public to plan to get home safe.
