Northwestern Ont. police seek help with historic robbery investigation

The Kenora Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment is requesting the public's assistance in identifying a suspect in a previously reported robbery.

On Jan. 4, 2023, shortly after 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a robbery in progress at the Canadian Tire gas station in Kenora, Ont.

Police said the suspect had fled the scene prior to police arrival.

“Surveillance footage shows the suspect entering the store armed with a firearm and stealing cash from the register,” the OPP said.

“Despite extensive efforts, including the deployment of the OPP K9 unit and emergency response team), the suspect was not located.”

Officers described the suspect as an Indigenous male wearing a black hoodie, a white face mask, black shoes and camouflage gloves.

The OPP said the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
