Suspended driver travelling 150 km/h on the Kingsway in Sudbury charged with impaired driving
A driver, 23, with a suspended licence is facing a list of criminal and traffic charges after being clocked travelling west on the Kingsway at 150 km/h – three times the limit.
A patrol officer going the opposite direction first spotted the vehicle just before 3:40 a.m. Sunday, Greater Sudbury Police Service said in a news release.
"The radar in the marked police cruiser clocked the vehicle traveling over 150 km/h in a posted 50km/h zone," police said.
Despite the flashing lights and sirens, the driver slowed down, but did not stop right away.
The vehicle turned on Lloyd Street and then on Pearl Street before coming to an abrupt stop.
"The driver then exited the vehicle and attempted to run from the officer," police said.
"The officer was able to catch the individual, who then resisted arrest."
Allegedly showing signs of impairment, the accused couldn't produce the vehicle's ownership or insurance papers.
"The officer ran the individual through police-related databases and found that the individual was also bound by two driver’s licence suspensions," police said.
"The individual was transported to police headquarters where they refused to provide a breath sample to a qualified breath technician."

A person with the same name and age as the accused was charged by Ontario Provincial Police on Highway 69 in November.
That driver was suspended that time too and also refused to comply with a demand to provide a breath sample.
Eleven new charges were laid by city police, including stunt driving, dangerous and impaired driving, flight from and obstructing a peace officer, failing to comply with a demand, two counts of driving while under suspension and failing to have an insurance card and vehicle permit.
The accused attended court on Sunday.
There is no word on whether they were remanded or released.
