Two Greater Sudbury drivers charged in racing incident on Hwy. 69
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped two vehicles travelling more than double the speed limit on Highway 69 south of Greater Sudbury early Friday morning.
Members of the Nipissing West OPP detachment responded to a traffic complaint about two vehicles racing in the northbound lane on Highway 69 towards Greater Sudbury at about 3:30 a.m.
"The two vehicles were travelling at a speed of 188 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone, when located and stopped by police," said OPP in a news release Monday.
As a result of the incident, a 21-year-old and a 23-year-old, both locals, were each charged with stunt driving.
In addition to the charges, both drivers also received 30-day driver’s licence suspensions and the vehicles involved were impounded for 14 days at the owner’s expense.

Court-imposed penalties for stunt driving may include a fine of up to $10,000, a driver’s licence suspension of up to three years and/or up to six months in jail. In Ontario, drivers face a minimum first-time fine for stunt driving of $2,000 upon conviction.
Both accused are scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 4 to answer the charges.
