A 44-year-old woman has been charged after the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service executed a search warrant on a home and vehicle in Kasabonika Lake First Nation in the late morning hours of Aug. 22.

“The search warrant was obtained as a result of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking in that community,” police said in a news release Friday.

“Following the search, police seized a quantity of cocaine, cash and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.”

Officers identified and located a female suspect later in the day at a different location.

“She was taken into custody without incident,” said police.

As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old woman from the First Nation community has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

The accused was released from custody with conditions and a future court appearance date.

None of the accusations has been proven in court.
