The Sudbury Theatre Centre is looking for a new artistic leader.
Gerry Copeman, president of the Sudbury Theatre Center Board of Governors, has announced that Sudbury’s only professional Anglophone theatre company will commence a national search for its next artistic leader.
STC’s current artistic executive director, Caleb Marshall, ends his term in June after three seasons at the helm.
Marshall will support the theatre through the transition period as an artistic consultant, and will be returning next season as a guest director.
“I am deeply proud of what we have accomplished in three seasons,” said Marshall.
“I was honoured to work with such a dedicated team at STC and I’d like to thank the community for being so gracious and welcoming of a new, more diverse direction for the company.”
The announcement comes as the STC is celebrating its 45th anniversary
Copeman thanked Marshall for his contributions and highlighted some of his accomplishments including: “improving the patron experience of our venue, broadening the breadth of programming, increasing cultural diversity, partnerships and collaborations, leading the way nationally with relaxed performances and having the highest percentage of Northern talent on our stage.”
STC said Marshall’s impact over three seasons was significant, earning him a nomination as a finalist for this year’s Mayor’s Celebration for the Arts.
The board wishes Marshall well on his future endeavours, he will now be taking some time to focus on personal artistic projects.
“STC is at an exciting juncture,” said Copeman. “We’re nearing the end of our biggest and boldest season, and recently announced our upcoming season of Nostalgia, Awe and Laughter.”
The board has formed a search committee to begin the process of replacing Marshall.
