Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after two men were found dead in a Northern Ontario lake.

On Monday evening, officers from the South Porcupine detachment were called to Biscotasi Lake, located 60 kilometres southwest of Gogama, where the bodies of two men were discovered.

It was reported that an empty boat had been seen on the shore of Dead Horse Island and the two males were found floating nearby.

Police say alcohol has been determined to have been a factor.

Life jackets were found inside the boat, but not worn.

No names are being released, but police say the two men are from southern Ontario.

A post-mortem examination will take place in Sudbury.

Anglers noticed an empty boat that was still running near the shore of an island and called police.

The two males have been identified as Dave Zelinski, 58, and Craig Zelinski, 55, both from Hamilton.

OPP say these are the first boating fatalities this year.

Last year, the province reached an eight-year high with 31 deaths.

They remind people to wear their life jackets and not consume alcohol when cruising the waterways.
