SUDBURY -- The intersection where Elm Street meets Big Nickel Mine Drive in Sudbury has been reopened Wednesday morning following a three-car crash that killed two people.
Police said they were called to the scene around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.
"When officers arrived on scene they found that three vehicles were involved in the collision; a blue SUV, a white pick-up truck and a silver SUV," said Sudbury Police Service in a news release Wednesday.
Sudbury police said a 40-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene and a 55-year-old male was taken to hospital where he later died. Both were drivers of different vehicles.
"Their names will not be released out of respect for their families’ wishes," said police. "Our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of the individuals involved in this tragic collision."
Police also said a 48-year-old man, the driver of the third vehicle involved, received non-life-threatening injuries in the incident.
"A fourth vehicle was indirectly involved after being struck by debris from the collision," said police.
Just after 7 a.m. Wednesday, police said the road was reopened after being closed for over 12 hours.
No word yet on the cause of the crash or if any charges are pending.
