Impaired drivers end up in the ditch on Manitoulin Island
Two recent impaired driving cases on Manitoulin Island left two drivers in the ditch, both facing multiple charges.
One case took place Dec. 27 in Gore Bay when Ontario Provincial Police received a call about an intoxicated and violent person about to get into a vehicle.
"The driver had attempted to leave the address in a pickup truck before getting stuck in the ditch," the OPP said in a news release.
"Police arrived on scene and located the driver, who was subsequently arrested and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries."
The 31-year-old from Little Current is charged with offences related to impaired driving, as well as domestic mischief, careless driving, failing to have an insurance card and defective brakes.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on Feb. 11.
The second case took place Christmas Day in Little Current when the OPP received q traffic complaint about a driver leaving a business.
"A second traffic complaint was received from a different individual, reporting that a pickup truck, which matched the description from the first complaint, had backed into the ditch on Whites Point Road," the OPP said.

"Officers attended the scene, and further investigation led to the driver being arrested for impaired operation."
A 29-year-old from Little Current is charged with impaired driving, being a novice driver with alcohol in their bloodstream and driving with an open container of liquor.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on Feb. 25.
