Timmins High and Vocational School has unveiled its brand-new track and field, and they celebrated with an inaugural soccer match on the artificial turf.

With a price tag of $3.8 million and two years to build, upgrades also include a fully rubberized track.
Staff at the school says it hasn’t seen a new sports area since the building first opened in 1923.
They say it's certainly a step up from the deteriorated gravel track, and that students can’t wait to use it.
Kris Koskela is the head of physical education at Timmins High and Vocational School.
"It’s super exciting to be able to get out here daily with our gym classes and have our sports teams build a practice and have games on a field such as this type of quality. So, we’re very lucky to have this type of facility right in our front yard," said Koskela.
Greg Vincze is the principal of the school.
"It’s been a long time coming, but it’s top-of-the-line. It’s state-of-the-art and so we have a lot of excited students to get on the field and to get on the tracks, start practising, and getting ready for the competitions this year," said Vincze.
School staff says students will have plenty of opportunities to use the track before snow starts building up in the winter.
