Suspicious fire displaces two people in Sudbury's west end

There were no injuries reported after a fired damaged a home on Regent Street near Douglas Street in Greater Sudbury’s west end on Sunday morning.

Greater Sudbury deputy fire chief Jesse Oshell told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca, in a short message, that Greater Sudbury Fire Services received calls about flames and the smell of smoke at the location at about 6 a.m.

Roadways near the blaze were closed for a short time while firefighters extinguished the fire.

Oshell said the fire was declared out at about 8 a.m.

Fire officials said crews performed thorough checks to ensure the blaze was completely out.

“(The) fire was deemed suspicious,” said Oshell.

“(The scene was) turned over to Greater Sudbury police and the Ontario Fire Marshal.”

Oshell said there were “no injuries” reported related to the fire.

However, two people have been displaced as a result of the blaze.
