Suspect on probation caught with $15K in fentanyl, Sault police say

Police in Sault Ste. Marie responding to an unrelated call last week discovered a suspect on probation with what appears to be 100 grams of fentanyl.

Officers made the discovery while responding to a separate call on Wellington Street East around 5 a.m. July 12.

When police arrived, they found the 37-year-old suspect “in possession of approximately 100 grams of suspected fentanyl along with packaging materials and $300 in Canadian currency,” Sault police said in a news release Wednesday.

“The estimated street value of drugs seized is approximately $15,000.”

Charges include drug trafficking and violating a probation order.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 16.
