Ontario's Ministry of Labour has been notified after an employee was injured on the job at Algoma Steel in Sault Ste. Marie on Tuesday.

"One of our employees sustained an injury while preparing scrap for our operations and required medical attention," Algoma spokesperson Laura Devoni said in an email Wednesday.

"We are supporting the individual and investigating the incident in accordance with our health and safety procedures."

Devoni also said the labour ministry was notified and its personnel later visited the steel plant.
