SUDBURY -- Greater Sudbury police seized a large haul of drugs and money this week in raids on three separate residences in the city.
Among the items seized were a kilo of cocaine – valued at $120,000 -- Hydromorphone capsules, Oxycodone, Fentanyl and $40,000 in cash.
The investigation began early this month, when Greater Sudbury Police's integrated crime unit began working with the OPP's organized crime enforcement bureau "to disrupt drug trafficking operations entering and operating within the City of Greater Sudbury," police said in a news release Friday.
Shortly before 10 p.m. on July 23, the special police units arrested a man outside of a residential building on Regent Street "in relation to an ongoing illicit drug trafficking investigation."
The man had Hydromorphone capsules valued at $2,500 and $540 in cash on him when he was arrested.
"Through the investigation, detectives applied for and were granted controlled drugs and substances search warrants for three residences in Greater Sudbury," police said.
Cocaine, Oxycodone, Fentanyl
Those searches uncovered the cocaine, Oxycodone pills worth $465, Hydromorphone capsules worth $2,800, $800 in Fentanyl and the $40,000 in cash.
"Detectives also obtained a … search warrant for a vehicle that was located at one of the residences where officers found additional cocaine," police said.
A 30-year-old man has been charged with cocaine trafficking and Hydromorphone trafficking, Fentanyl possession, possession of property obtained by crime and resisting arrest.
He was held in custody for bail court Friday morning.
"A 30-year-old woman and a 45-year-old woman were arrested during the incident," police said. "However they were released unconditionally."
The integrated crime team "aims to identify and disrupt organized crime in Greater Sudbury through innovative technology, collaborative partnerships and traditional police work," police said, "resulting in the arrests of those involved, holding them accountable for their criminal activities and the seizure of illegal drugs, prohibited firearms and proceeds of crime."
