An intoxicated man from northern Ontario has been charged with damaging property.

Ontario Provincial Police said they responded to a report about “an intoxicated individual” headed to assault an unknown person at about 1 p.m. on Jan. 2. The complainant stated the individual had left a residence on Shingwalk Street in Blind River.

“Police located the intoxicated individual walking out of a driveway on East Street, within the Mississauga First Nation community,” OPP said in a news release.

“Officers arrested the individual and transported them to the Blind River detachment, where they were lodged until sober.”

Officers subsequently received a complaint about mischief in the area where the arrest occurred while the individual was still in custody.

“Upon investigation, they determined that the damages to items in the complainant's front yard had been caused by the same person they had arrested earlier,” said police.

As a result, the 34-year-old man from the Mississauga First Nation has been charged with two counts of mischief for destroying and damaging property.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on March 6 in Elliot Lake to answer the charges.
