SUDBURY -- As overdose cases continue to rise, Sudbury public health officials are one more step closer to establishing a supervised consumption site.
Officials were originally looking at five potential sites, and have reduced that number to two. They are now in the process of conducting site visits with the goal of making a final decision by the end of the week.
Katie Junkin, health promoter at Public Health Sudbury & Districts, said opioid-related calls to paramedics have increased this year, which she says highlights the need for a supervised consumption site.
Approval is still required from both Health Canada and the province.
