A Sudbury driver was travelling more than 40km/h over the speed limit on Regional Road 80, police say.

According to provincial police, a Sudbury driver was travelling more than 40km/h over the speed limit on Regional Road 80 in Greater Sudbury on Jan. 21/24. (Supplied/Ontario Provincial Police)“(On) Jan. 21, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Region’s Sudbury TIME (traffic incident management and enforcement team) stopped a vehicle traveling 101km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone on RR 80,” provincial police said on social media.

Last year, OPP officials in northern Ontario said following a pause during the pandemic stunt driving in the region is again on the rise.

As a result of the traffic stop a 44-year-old driver from Greater Sudbury has been charged with speeding and stunt driving – their driver’s licence was also suspended for 30 days and the vehicle involved was impounded for 14 days.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.

“Slow down,” said police.

“(And) drive safe.”
