A group in Timmins, called the Lord's Kitchen Society, was celebrating Friday and held an open house.
Organizers figured it was time to pat themselves on the back for more than 30 years of good work and to maybe recruit some new help.
The community's slogan is ‘The City with a Heart of Gold’ and it comes by it honestly, people do enjoy helping others here.
Ann Rudd-Robins is the President of the Timmins & District Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.
“Knowledge is always good to have. So, if we can help other groups in some way, or even if it's just manpower or maybe they'd like to go help us out sometime when we have something going on." said Rudd-Robins.
And if it weren't for all the assistance the Lord's Kitchen Society gets from dedicated volunteers, it wouldn't be able to serve up its locally famous, hot, home cooked meals every Thursday night to people who are homeless or in need.
Dee Russell is the President of the Lord's Kitchen Society.
“We're a grey-haired community, so we've got time on our hands, so we don't mind volunteering." said Russell.
And they've been doing this with the help of numerous local sponsors as well since 1985.
"Up until a few months ago, we were over a million, over a million meals. Sometimes pork loin roast, sometimes beef stew. Shepherd's pie is the favourite of all our clients.” said Russell.
This organization is so well known, other people in the community like to pitch in, including clients from the Cochrane Temiskaming Resource Centre.
“It keeps me busy and it keeps me out of trouble and I like to help and it makes me feel good." said Nicholas Hoffman-Roy, of Cochrane Temiskaming Resource Centre
The Lord's Kitchen Society hosted the open house to share its good news and since it's autumn, to give thanks for what it's able to do for the community.
Officials are hoping for continued support from sponsors and volunteers.
