Sault suspect charged with headbutting victim while wearing a helmet

A 40-year-old in Sault Ste. Marie who was on probation has been charged with assault with a weapon following an incident in August.

In a news release Tuesday, police said they were contacted Aug. 22 about an incident at an apartment building in the 200 block of Wellington Street West.

"Although the accused left prior to officers’ arrival, an investigation revealed the accused, who is known to the victim, had headbutted them while wearing a helmet," police said.

"The victim sustained minor physical injuries. A warrant was obtained for the accused’s arrest."

The suspect was arrested Sept. 27 on Elliot Road. Charges include assault with a weapon and two counts of violating probation orders.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 25.
