A police investigation in Sault Ste. Marie has wrapped up after the Algoma District School Board was made aware of an alleged threat to Superior Heights Collegiate.
Police say that the threat was not a legitimate one and that there was never an actual threat to anyone's safety.
In fact, they say it was just something overheard in a hallway.
“We were able to determine that some students were engaged in a conversation that was overheard by other students. And that conversation was later reported to officials at the school and the police because the person overhearing it took it in a threatening manner. It’s important for students to remember when they are having conversations, that yeah, things that they say actually matter and when they do make threats towards the safety of individuals, it’s something that police and staff need to take very, very seriously.” said Sonny Spina, of Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
“Well, we have to be cautious. Because we can’t assume that it’s not. I think we always have to assume that there could be something in it and we have to work with our partners, like city police or OPP in the district, and work to ensure the safety of our students and staff are secure.” said Joe Maurice, of Algoma District School Board.
Board officials say while the school is open today, measures are in place to reinforce safety.
CTV News has heard that attendance at the school is low on Friday.
