Two people have been charged in Sault Ste. Marie after police received information about someone with an illegal firearm on Elliot Road.

Police arrested a 28-year-old on Dec. 13 on Great Northern Road, which led them to search his Elliot Road residence.

"Upon entry, detectives located the second accused within the residence," police said in a news release Monday.

"They were arrested. A search of the residence located a sawed-off shotgun and 10 rounds of ammunition."

Both the 28-year-old suspect and a 26-year-old have been charged with several weapons offences, while the second suspect was also charged with two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
