The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service say one person has been taken into custody following an incident on Sussex Road in the city.

"Around 3:15 p.m. officers were able to take the person into custody without incident," police said in an update.

"The person remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing."

The incident began when a caller to 911 reported someone with a knife in the area.

"Officers were dispatched to the residence and secured the area upon arrival," police said in a news release.

The person refused to leave, prompting police to secure the area until they were able to take them into custody.
